Exciting contemporary jazz from Buenos Aires Sebastián Greschuk

Exciting contemporary jazz from Buenos Aires Sebastián Greschuk – PAISAJE:  July, 2019 features some truly exciting contemporary jazz from Buenos Aires… on Sebastian’s red-hot release, featuring Sebastián Greschuk’s fantastic trumpet/flugelhorn work and compositional skills, you’ll also hear Sebastián de Urquiza – contra-bass; Matias Crouzeilles – drums and Nicolas Boccanera – piano/Rhodes… as always, the best way to really “get to know the players” is to watch them performing…

…this exclusive video from our friends at Ears and Eyes Records is well-recorded, and this performance of “Desafectados” (Disaffected) gives you an intimate look at the making of the album; it’s only one of the exciting videos you’ll find to enjoy when you SUBSCRIBE to Sebastian’s YouTube channel.  I did, and you should as well.

I don’t often go “ape” over a particular tune, but I certainly did when I listened to the haunting and subtle brass on “La Espera” (The Wait)… just over six minutes of horn-led beauty that takes me all the way back to some of the early Lee Morgan excursions… there are some wonderful keyboards on this one, too… Rhodes, & then acoustic, which I just loved; I predict this tune will be getting some MAJOR airplay on jazz stations ’round the globe!

What really sets Sebastián’s music apart from all the others is the “movement“… many trumpet/flugelhorn songs tend to get “in a rut“, so to speak, but as you’ll hear as you listen to the engaging opener, “Lluvia Eterna“, is that the tune is ever-moving, with exciting changes abounding… be sure you listen to this one with your headphones on, folks.

The interplay between horn and Rhodes on “Boomerang” made it my personal favorite of the nine songs Sebastián offers up for your aural enjoyment… actually, each instrument gets to shine brilliantly, but I was particularly drawn to the horn & keyboards (maybe because I’m a keyboard player, too)… if any jazz piece merits an award – this is IT, folks!

I give Sebastián and his players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99 for this splendid jazz adventure.  Get more information on the BandCamp page for the album.            Rotcod Zzaj
