Eclectic multi ethnic jazz Ray Obiedo – Carousel

Eclectic multi ethnic jazz Ray Obiedo – CAROUSEL:  Jazz guitarist Ray Obiedo got very high marks from me in issue # 164, and his new August, 2019 release is even better… the player list reads like a “who’s who” for eclectic multi ethnic jazz… David K. Mathews and Karl Perazzo; Peter Michael Escovedo, Andy Narell, David Garibaldi, as well as Toots Thieleman, Bob Mintzer, Norbert Stachel, Phil Hawkins, Peter Horvath and Mike Olmos… samples weren’t available, so you’ll have to trust my ears when I tell you that tunes like “Sharp Aztec” put you right IN the GROOVE… I just love this song; in fact, it’s earned a permanent spot on my iPhone (only reserved for the very best jazz tuneage).

Though I couldn’t find any live tunes from this new album (maybe next time, eh, Ray?), nearly all his albums are available for high-quality listening when you SUBSCRIBE to his YouTube topic channel, which I most highly recommend doing.

The percussion that floats in & under Ray’s magic guitar on the 6:15 “Villa Capri” is quite amazing, and you’ll find yourself swaying right along with the beat as you sip your rum & coke, I’ve no doubt… I predict that this composition will be getting some MAJOR airplay on jazz stations ’round the globe!

I found my “instant hit” to be the closer, “Sunset“; absolutely my personal favorite of the nine high-energy & high-talent tunes that Ray offers up for your aural adventures!

Ray and his players get a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED from me, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.98 for this superb jazz adventure.  Get more information on Ray’s page for the album.            Rotcod Zzaj
