Completely captivating countertenor with guitar Composers Concordance Records – Operatic Electric

Completely captivating countertenor with guitar Composers Concordance Records – Operatic Electric:  Gene Pritsker is a creator/composer you may not have heard yet, but you owe it to your ears to “get with it“, folks… I first reviewed him as part of Sound Liberation, and was amazed by his abilities… on this new February, 2020 release, he features Juecheng Chen’s completely captivating countertenor with guitar on modern opera pieces that do not (at ALL) fit the stereotypes you may have of opera music.  There are originals by Gene, but what makes the album so enchanting are their explorations through the  music of John Dowland, Henry Purcell, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Claudio Monteverdi… one of the pieces that convinced me (right away) that this is so “different” is Gene’s original, “TaKe oNe”… a lonely piano is melded in with modern beats against Juecheng’s magic vocal; a true blend of tradition with today’s music!

Though you won’t find samples of the songs posted yet, you can listen to a fine Operatic Electric sampler that will gives you an intimate & up-close insight to what’s being done by this engaging duo… to get a look at some earlier performances, be sure to SUBSCRIBE to the Composers Concordance YouTube channel.

The operatic vocal on Monteverdi’s “Lascietemi” starts off with beautiful string sounds complimenting is, but right at the 1:30 mark, it takes you on a percussive turn that is full of rhythm and life… I have no doubt that this piece will be getting some MAJOR airplay on all types of stations ’round the globe!

It’s Gene’s arrangement and performance of a Mark Kostabi tune, “Echoes Through The Ages”, that (hands down) won my vote for personal favorite of the eleven songs offered up for your aural adventure, though… flawless recording and performance make this one a real winner.

I give Gene and Juecheng a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED score, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.98 for this totally unique album.  Get more information on the Composer’s Concordance website as it becomes available.         Rotcod Zzaj
