Stunning original solo piano journeys Lisa Swerdlow – Voyager

Stunning original solo piano journeys Lisa Swerdlow – VOYAGER:  When I reviewed Lisa’s excellent “Equus Rising”  in issue # 168, I had no idea she would so quickly be releasing a new album in August, 2018 (you won’t find the samples posted yet, but the links will work after mid-August)… before I write about it, I strongly recommend you watch the video created for her new album, featuring the title track, “Voyager“…

…as you can see, the stunning views of our galaxy, merged with Lisa’s amazing keyboard talents, will transport you (easily) to times and places we all wish to be… of course, since you’re there already, be sure to SUBSCRIBE to Lisa’s YouTube channel, where you’ll find many more pleasant sonic and visual experiences.

One of the most endearing aspects of her playing is her striking use of the lower keyboard registers to add emphasis to a phrase, as you’ll hear (beginning) at the 1:02 mark on the beautiful 3:41 “Mindful Moments“… the magical overtones she achieves on this piece will reach deeply into your heart and bring you pleasure often as you listen to the piece over and over again!

I didn’t know it before this album, but Ms. Swerdlow has a very diverse musical background… an early start on piano (age 6), coffee-house playing in the 1970’s, and even a rock&roll band in San Francisco; all of that is to say that she brings the full depth of that diverse musical experience to bear on the creations she has realized on this release… the intriguing strains of “Into the Center” allow her to realize her goal for her music – in her own words – “I hope my music serves as a vehicle for healing the heart.”

My personal favorite of the dozen pieces Lisa offers up for your aural enjoyment is also the longest on the album; the closer for the album clocks in at 6:25, and will transport you blissfully on the journey she is creating on “Yuba River Journey“… the song literally swirls with life, and is certainly among the most spirited piano tunes I’ve listened to (yet) in 2018.

I give Lisa a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of 4.99 for this exciting aural adventure.  Learn more on Lisa’s website.          Rotcod Zzaj
