Julian Gerstin joyful jazz percussion Julian Gerstin – The One Who Makes You Happy

Julian Gerstin joyful jazz percussion Julian Gerstin – THE ONE WHO MAKES YOU HAPPY:  Percussionist Julian has roved about the globe working with musicians from many countries, and for this adventure, he’s got a stellar cast of players as well… Anna Patton doing clarinet, Don Anderson on trumpet, Eugene Uman plays piano, Wes Brown performs on bass and Ben James does the drum set… just listen to one of the “happiest” songs I’ve heard (yet) in 2017, “The King Dreams of Flying“… the 6:45 tune length gives plenty of room for each of the players to speak to you, and speak they do… there’s a “processional” feel to this, which (I think) fits the title quite nicely!

If you want something that’s a bit funkier, you’ll totally groove on “Dig It Deeper“… the tune is full-bodied, and will have you up & swayin’ ’round the room in only a few bars… the new release officially hits the street on 1 September, 2017, but of course you can get it at any of the popular online outlets.

Julian’s compositional skill set uses rhythms all the way from Cuba to Bulgaria (& beyond), and for a great taste of the Cuban site of things, listen carefully to “Apprendiendo Como Amar“, which features vocal work from five Cuban players in the Bay area… & you don’t have to understand any of the words to feel the soul & joy they convey through this great song!

My personal favorite of the eleven songs offered up, though, is the driving “Child Left Behind“… this is definitely the kind of high-energy jazz we seek out here… any listener, no matter their “jazz background”, will find this very enjoyable (and danceable, by the way).  This track plays constantly on my iPhone, which is a stage only a few tunes get to!  I give Julian and all his players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of 4.99 for this very solid release… keep your ears open, I suspect you’ll be hearing much more from Julian!  Get more information at Julian’s website.         Rotcod Zzaj
