* cathysegalgarcia adventurous jazz vocals * Cathy Segal-Garcia – IN2UITION:  Believe it or not, one of the most difficult feats to pull off in jazz is the duo between a jazz vocalist and the piano… Cathy shines the bright light of her total talent on fourteen songs, and as you listen to her on “I Want To Be Happy” (with Gary Fukushima on keyboards), your ears will realize they have made the acquaintance of a real jazz vocal master… her bubbling personality just shimmers on this one!

Cathy co-wrote “Mary O’Shaunessy” with her husband Gary Hoffman, and clearly shows why my theory that music an artist created is always performed with that “extra bit” of spirit & soul… a simple tune, but one you will remember for many moons to come.  One of the things I believe I can hear in Cathy’s singing is an inability to settle for norms, and you’ll be a believer as well when you listen to her unique rendition of Jobim’s “Bonita”, with Venezuelan pianist Otmaro Ruiz; it will really touch your emotions deeply.

It was easy for me to choose my favorite… the opener for the 2-CD set, “I Love You“, gives you an insight to just how swingin’ Cathy can get as she performs the Cole Porter tune with Josh Nelson on piano… lovely & lively, to be sure!  I give Cathy and her eleven pianists a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of 4.98 for this fine adventure in jazz.  Get more information about this fascinating singer and teacher on Cathy’s website.           Rotcod Zzaj

  1. Dear Dick, thank you so very much! This review brought a smile to my face and heart! I loved making this project, and I’d like to do another piano one, and of course a guitar one too! A benefactor has given me money for a new project, but I’m leaning towards one with a chamber ensemble…ah it never ends! 🙂 Really appreciate your comments, thanks Dick. All the best, Cathy
